Ron Perlman, 72 year old American actor and Hellboy star, discussed acting as a craft during his How I Got There press tour, describing it as sex. According to the actor, his craft is an “intimate form of discovery” that occurs in stages.
He continues by breaking it into those stages and, according to Perlman, the first stage is reading the script to “understand the world you’re entering into, and your place in that world, then you give your interpretation of it.” He continues, “You’re being watched by a filmmaker who has the whole thing in his mind. It’s almost like sex.”
Perlman added that he hopes he’s satisfying the audience with his performance, saying “It’s very intimate, and it’s very, very personal.” Describing acting as sex wasn’t the only topic Ron Perlman discussed in his chat with Variety. The actor also talked about an experience he feels the youths are missing out on.

Ron Perlman Describes Acting as Sex and Feels the Youths Are Missing Out by Streaming Movies
A higher percentage of people will agree that technology has made life easier for everyone. However, there are some modifications that come with technological advancement, even in the movie world.
This includes the introduction of streaming platforms which has curbed cinematic experience for many. In Ron Perlman’s interview, where he described acting as sex, he pointed out that people who only stream movies are missing out on a lot, using his kids as a case study.
The Beauty and the Beast star thinks going to the movie theatre and sitting among 3,000 strangers is a transformative experience. He further stated, “The advent of people not leaving their homes to get their culture is taking away one of the great dimensions of the way we get our culture. You should leave your f—ing house.”
According to the star actor, experiencing our commonality as a people is one of the essential strengths of cinema. Ron Perlman is sure to leave his audience satisfied in his new movie role, just like he described acting as sex.
He played the role of The Merc in How I Got There, which is written and directed by Zeyad Alhusaini.
