To all fans of the Hellboy movies out there, there may still be hope. This isn’t about the 2019 Hellboy rendition. No, this is about the 2000s Hellboy movies that last graced our screens over ten years ago. According to David Harbour himself, there aren’t any plans for a sequel. Since the release of Hellboy 2 in 2008, fans have been hoping for news on Hellboy 3. That said, thirteen years on doesn’t seem a very likely time to get it. However, lead actor Ron Perlman thinks otherwise and doesn’t want to give up on Hellboy 3. He may be slowing down, but he doesn’t think the Hellboy franchise deserves to.
Perlman Wants to Do Whatever He Can For Hellboy Fans
Ron Perlman has almost single-handedly spearheaded the recent desire for Hellboy 3. He feels like the fans deserve this since Hellboy 2 didn’t give them the big finale. Of course, it isn’t an easy task, even if things eventually come together. Perlman is now 71 years old, far beyond the time of outrageous stunts and action. The most action-based stuff he does now is voice roles. One of which will be taking over as Optimus Primal in Transformers: Rise of the Beasts. His days of being a rowdy devil or biker are starting to ride into the sunset.
Another thing that could impede Hellboy 3 is the director. Perlman has outwardly stated in his campaign that none other than the original will do. That means Guillermo Del Toro himself will need to return before Perlman considers taking the role. Del Toro has been extremely busy in recent years, with multiple different roles in the movie scene. From director to writer to a producer, a lot of projects since Hellboy 2 have his name on them. Whether he has the time is one question. Whether he’s interested in returning is another. Perlman thinks that as long as fans have strong support, Hellboy 3 may eventually see the light of day.
