Earlier this week, Rooster Teeth co-founder Geoff Ramsey co-hosted the Kinda Funny Morning Show with Nick Scarpino. The show featured a range of topics, from Matt Reeves’ Netflix deal to Walter Hamada oversight of DC movies. But one of the most interesting parts of the show revolved around a tangential topic between Ramsey and Scarpino.
For a good part of the first thirty minutes of the show, Ramsey and Scarpino talked about Scarpino’s up and coming career as a stand-up comedian. As the conversation continued, Ramsey revealed he wants the next RT Docs to be about stand up comedy.
“I think we should do a documentary that follows you and James [Willems] and your stand-up journey,” Ramsey said. “My selling point is if Rooster Teeth bites, I will agree – even though I am super scared to do it – to be apart of it. And from step one figure out what the fuck being a stand-up comedian is all about.”
The documentary would be the culmination of a lot talk regarding the subject from the three Rooster Teeth employees. There have been multiple different videos that have taken place over the last few years that feature each of them talking about their love of stand-up comedy.
While Scarpino has been out and doing amateur stand up for the last year or so, Funhaus’ James Willems has talked about doing other things outside of Funhaus, including both screenwriting and stand-up. Let’s Play Live New York attendants were treated to a quick bit his stand-up back in 2016. After being introduced by Jack Patillo as his L.A friend who fancies himself a comedian, Willems went on stage for a quick, and dark, joke.
Ramsey stated that he hasn’t officially pitched the idea yet, but that, like with many other things in the Rooster Teeth community, he hopes the idea will gain traction now that he has floated it to the audience. His mindset is if fans start talking about how much they’d love to see the documentary, it shows there is interest, and only reinforces that it should be made.
So far the RT Docs department of Rooster Teeth has featured a diverse array topics surrounding Nerd Culture and Entertainment. Their next installment will revolve around the cosplay career of Jessica Nigri.
