In the wake of Valheim‘s success, a familiar face in the genre, Rust, has allowed fans a peek at the upcoming Rust Console Edition. Also, eager fans now have the chance to sign-up for the beta. Rust will release on both Xbox One and PS4.
Although it never attained the levels of instant stardom that Valheim did, Rust is still a juggernaut in the survival genre. Even now, after a cooling-off of its popularity, it consistently ranks in the top ten most-played on Steam. As with most survival games, Rust is all about accruing and utilizing resources to gain a foothold in a harsh environment. The game is perhaps best known for its player versus player bent, with your hours of hard-work and base building always being in jeopardy. A nod to the ruthless nature of Rust punctuates the newly released trailer.
While this look gives us little to go on, the smooth combat and beautifully rendered graphics are cause for celebration. If Valheim‘s success, and the relative struggle of earlier survival games, has taught us anything, it’s that playability is king. If Rust hits consoles with intuitive controls and responsive gameplay, it’ll be an absolute home run.
In the face of waning interest, this console revival could be exactly what Rust needs to rejuvenate its fanbase. The jump to consoles should open the game to new players and encourage the developers to keep investing in the game.
If you’re excited, you better hurry. The limited beta ends on March 29th. You can get more information via their official website or via the Rust Console Edition Twitter.
