Ryan Reynolds Reveals Deadpool Costume

The Deadpool movie really is proving to be the Little Engine That Could. Despite the now-six years between when Deadpool was first introduced on the big screen, and the start of filming Deadpool’s solo flick, enthusiasm for the project seems to be at an all-time high. About a month and a half ago, Reynolds revealed the prototype for the Deadpool mask via his Twitter account.

Since Deadpool has begun shooting, Fox has gone on to announce Morena Baccarin and T.J. Miller as integral characters to the story. All of this, however, has avoided one question fans have had: what would Deadpool’s costume look like when it’s done? Those who’d seen X-Men Origins: Wolverine didn’t have a lot to rest their faith in. While Reynolds was stellar in all seven minutes of screen time, his character pre-dated Deadpool’s physical scarring, and therefore predated the trademark Deadpool attire that fans know and love. Well, fans no longer have to wonder if the “Merc With a Mouth’s” outfit will live up to the performance this time around. Earlier this morning, Ryan Reynolds once again took to Twitter to unveil the long-awaited costume.

Needless to say, the costume, pretty much fits the comic book vision exactly.

The tweet is accompanied by the cheeky line, “With great power, comes great irresponsibility,” an obvious play on Spider-Man‘s iconic philosophy. The photo shows Deadpool sprawled out across a bear rug, posing sensually for the camera. Some may recognize the photo that this reveal is parodying: a 1970s Burt Reynolds spread, Screen Crush reveals (mildly NSFW). This very much fits the tone of the Deadpool comic, which is hilarious, tongue-in-cheek, and irreverent.

While word has it that the Deadpool‘s script does indeed fit the character, it has been unknown whether or not the live action film will be an R-rated affair. Sure, the source material definitely lends itself to a more “mature” flavor, but Fox has a had a tendency as of late to PG-13-ify even its more mature licenses (Live Free Or Die Hard, for instance), Screen Crush also notes. Given that Deadpool could potentially exist within the same universe as the X-Men and Fantastic Four, would Fox risk an eventual team-up of sorts in favor of staying true to many fans’s visions?

“That debate rages on. We’ll see,” Reynolds says.
