Nintendo Insider confidently claims that Scalebound will soon see the light of day. This Microsoft-exclusive game spent four years in development post-announcement before an abrupt cancellation in early 2017.  The rumor of its impending release stirs during a heavy-hitting window of Nintendo reveals. With the recent direct making waves last week, it seems that Nintendo is doing an excellent job keeping itself relevant. This is even despite the lack of major first-party releases lined up for 2019 – namely Mario Kart, Smash Bros, and Mario Party – all of which already dominate the switch.
Scalebound adds to this media frenzy, pairing nicely with the revelation that Xbox Live seems to be spreading like a disease towards Nintendo as well! Thankfully, things simply don’t live or die first-party anymore. At the recent DICE summit, Sean Layden of PlayStation affirmed Nintendo’s viability in the industry. Microsoft obviously echoes that sentiment, so it’s an exciting time!
Down but not Out
Game development mimicks biology. These living, breathing creations clearly take on tons of different shapes and sizes – in this case taking on a whole new family. While other games like Scalebound certainly exist, it has earned itself quite a unique upbringing. What was once a visionary proposal for the “new” 2013 consoles now becomes a traded player in the current season of gaming – and it’s a wild season at that. This is an excellent grab for Nintendo! It will be interesting to see how it fits into the mold of “play anywhere” gaming, a mantra that its former parent Microsoft continues to push for in the industry across many devices including the Nintendo Switch. Here’s to the future, is it sooner than we think?
