Keanu Reeves’s comic book series BRZRKR: The Immortal Saga Continues had its first panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2022 to announce an upcoming anime. With its first Comic Con 2022 panel, the anime announced that Production I.G. is producing the series. The series has been planned for two full seasons as of now.
Netflix first announced the series in March 2021. This announcement was to say that they acquired the rights to the original comic book series from BOOM! Studios. The story for BRZRKR: The Immortal Saga Continues is described as follows;
BRZRKR is a brutally epic saga about an immortal warrior’s 80,000-year fight through the ages. The man only known as B is half-mortal and half god, cursed and compelled to violence… even at the sacrifice of his sanity. But after wandering the earth for centuries, B may have finally found a refuge- working for the U.S. government to fight the battles too violent and dangerous for anyone else. in exchange, B will be granted the one thing he desires- the truth about his endless blood-soaked existence… and how to end it.
Keanu Reeves and ‘BRZRKR”: The Animation Powerhouse Behind it
Netflix said it would first adapt the story into a feature film, followed by an anime spinoff. Now, the streaming service also added that the anime series would “further expand the BRZRKR universe by exploring different elements of the series. Reeves will reprise his role and voice his character.” The comic book series for BRZRKR includes Keanu Reeves as a writer alongside Matt Kindt and artist Ron Garney.
Production I.G. is behind many big names in the anime community. The company has worked on notable titles such as Ghost in the Shell, Kuroko’s Basketball, Psycho Pass, and Haikyu!!. The studio has been around animating since 1987 and has since garnered more than enough praise over the years for its prowess.
