It looks like the simultaneous filming of seasons 3 and 4 of the FX series Atlanta was no mere coincidence. According to Variety, the Emmy Award-winning show is coming to an end in the Fall after its fourth season. Variety reports that FX chairman John Landgraf announced the news during the recent press tour for the Television Critics Association. Although the news of FX original coming to an end is a dark cloud over the Atlanta fandom, Landgraf assured fans that the new season promises the same surprising qualities that the show has been known for “The fourth and final season is slated to debut in the same manner this fall,” says Landgraf “The new season is everything you’ve come to expect from ‘Atlanta,’ which is to say, expect the unexpected. Sit back and enjoy the trip.”
Since the 2016 premiere of Atlanta, the cast and crew have found mass-market together, collaborating several times outside of the Atlanta set (actors Brian Tyree Henry and Zazie Beetz both had starring roles in the Oscar-winning Joker, while Zazie Beetz and LaKeith Stanfield worked together in the Netflix original The Harder They Fall). According to IMDB, the show itself has secured over 50 awards, including the first two Primetime Emmy Awards for its creator, writer, director, and star Donald Glover (Glover won for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series Outstanding Directing for a Comedy series in 2017).
Fans of the show’s writing will be happy to know that Donald Glover has a new series in the works. According to Complex, the award-winning actor is currently developing a series for Amazon based on the 2005 spy film Mr. and Mrs. Smith, a show he will also write for and star.
Season 3 of Atlanta will premiere on FX on March 24th and will be available to stream on Hulu the following day. In the meantime, you can catch up on seasons 1 and 2 now on Hulu.
