Nintendo and Illumination have just released the second Super Mario Bros Movie trailer, providing a first look at Princess Peach (voiced by Anya-Taylor Joy) and Donkey Kong, voiced by Seth Rogen. The trailer was teased yesterday in a poster and announcement by Illumination and Nintendo as well.
Second Super Mario Bros Movie Trailer Gives First Look at Princess Peach
The second trailer for the Super Mario Bros Movie was just released via the official Super Mario Bros Movie in the November 29, 2022, Direct. The trailer showcased several brand new scenes from the movie and provided a first look at Princess Peach and Donkey Kong, voiced by Anya-Taylor Joy and Seth Rogen, respectively.
Luigi, voiced by Charlie Day, was also showcased prominently in the trailer for the first time.
The trailer contains several references to the Mario universe, including Mario Kart. It seems that the premise will revolve around Mario and Luigi being brought into the Mushroom Kingdom to save it from the threat of Bowser, the King of the Koopas, voiced by Jack Black.
This is actually in line with Mario’s origins in the isekai genre and is perhaps a reference to the 1989 film The Super Mario Bros.: The Great Mission to Rescue Princess Peach!, an anime film that also seems to allude to the Mario Bros. origins as plumbers from the real world who are brought into the mushroom kingdom.
The first trailer for the movie was released on October 6, 2022, during a similar Nintendo Direct-style presentation. It included commentary from producers Shigeru Miyamoto and Chris Meledandri, Chris Pratt (the voice of Mario), and Jack Black.
The Super Mario Bros Movie will be released in theaters on April 7, 2023, nearly 30 years after the release of the original 1993 film. To keep up with the latest updates on the movie, be sure to keep reading The Nerd Stash!
