Winona Ryder is back in her Lydia Deetz attire in set photos from Beetlejuice 2. According to The Daily Mail, Ryder was spotted with the Lydia Deetz hairstyle (i.e., spiked black locks) in a Tesla in Hitchin, Hertfordshire. Ryder sat in the passenger seat of the Tesla that was covered in camera equipment as it was driven out of a disused school. It was reported last month that Beetlejuice 2 was officially in the works and that the 51-year-old actress would reprise the character teenager. Based on these set photos, Winona Ryder’s Lydia Deetz appears to be as gothy and dark as we remember. And this is in spite of the fact that she is now a grown woman with a daughter (Jenna Ortega).

Winona Ryder Revisits Lydia Deetz in ‘Beetlejuice 2’
Winona Ryder’s performance as Lydia Deetz in Beetlejuice was one of her star-making roles. However, it was also a role that garnered her some backlash. Ryder said in 2017 that she was bullied at school after making the movie. “I remember thinking, ‘Ooh, it’s like the number-one movie. This is going to make things great at school,'” Ryder said. However, the actress said that filming the movie made things worse. Ryder claims that many classmates called her a witch.
Despite the bullying, Ryder went on to garner more attention in films such as Heathers, Bram Stroker’s Dracula, and Edward Scissorhands (also directed by Beetlejuice director Tim Burton). She went on to earn Oscar nominations for her work in The Age of Innocence and Little Women. Regardless of the trouble it led to at school, Winona Ryder’s performance as Lydia Deetz helped to make her a household name and a star.
Winona Ryder is joining fellow Beetlejuice stars Michael Keaton (Beetlejuice) and Catherine O’Hara (Delia Deetz) in Beetlejuice 2. The movie is set to release on September 6, 2024.
