Serena Williams’ daughter Olympia is very good at playing tennis, just like her. However, she is unlikely to follow in Serena Williams’ footsteps despite her prowess, even at a young age. The tennis legend spoke about this recently and expressed her disappointment. Find out what she said.
Serena Williams’ Daughter Olympia Unlikely To Follow In Her Footsteps
Serena Williams’ daughter Olympia has not fallen in love with tennis yet. During an appearance on Person to Person, Serena revealed that her 5-year-old daughter, Olympia, doesn’t like the sport yet.
“Olympia’s doing good. She doesn’t actually like to play tennis too much,” the 41-year-old pro athlete said. “That’s a little disappointing for me, but she’s actually really good at it. So we are trying to figure out a way to get her to play a little bit.”
Norah O’Donnell suggested that she can be encouraged to play sports if there’s a social aspect which Serena agreed with.
Serena acknowledged that that might be the key for her daughter. The mum of one revealed that her daughter is social and likes to be with her friends. She added that Olympia even likes going to school because of her friends.
The tennis champion also recalled how she always played with her sister growing up. She realized that it could have been a factor that made her love the sport more.
Serena Wants To Try To Get Olympia To Play With Friends
Serena continued by noting that she could encourage Olympia to follow in her footsteps through a group lesson.
“I think that’s what I’m gonna do,” she decided before telling Norah, “You just gave me a nice clue, because I really want her to play at least a little bit because she’s actually really good at it.”
Serena’s comments came five months after she stepped away from professional tennis after her US Open run.
ET spoke to Williams last month as she reflected on life post-tennis. The tennis legend stated that she played the sport all her life, so not playing now is new for her.
However, she added that she would keep practicing and training as much as possible but only for fun.
While it is unlikely that Olympia will follow in Serena Williams’ footsteps, she is clearly good at it. Interestingly, she may pick an interest in it later on.
