Through the August Indie World Showcase stream on August 18th, Nintendo announced 20 different Switch indie games are coming to the portable console. And seven of them were released to Switch’s eShop right after the end of the show. Packed with unique ideas and themes, all of them are definitely worth your time. Let’s take a look at this week’s Switch indie game releases.
7. Raji: An Ancient Epic – $24.99
A unique action-adventure title based on “Hindu and Balinese mythology“. After being bested by the gods thousands of years ago, demons now invade the human realm. A young girl named Raji was chosen to be the sole defender of the human race. Somewhat similar to God of War, mastering diverse selection of weapons and powers gifted by the gods such as Trishul spear and Sharanga bow will be your key to beating Mahabalasura and its demon army.
6. INMOST – $14.99
In this gloomy pixel side-scroller. you will uncover the personal journey of three characters: a young girl and a house with a mysterious past, a stoic knight in the depths of a deteriorating castle, and a man in search of answers. Utilize weapons such as a scythe and hookshot as well as lethal traps to avoid gruesome ends. While you’re solving puzzles don’t forget to look around for secret passages and collectibles as well. Designed to be finished in just 3-5 hours, this is one of the Switch indie games that’s perfect to unwind in a weekend.
5. Manifold Garden – $19.99
Talking about solving puzzles, of course, we can’t forget about this mind-bending title. Inspired by “Escher-esque” infinitely repeating architectural designs, Manifold Garden asks you to manipulate gravity to gain new perspectives and finding new ways to walk on any visible surface. Intriguing puzzles, perplexing visuals, interesting color combinations… what else do you need from a puzzle game?
4. Evergate – $19.99
A platformer with a heavy emphasis on storytelling, Evergate follows a curious soul named Ki on her journey through the afterlife. Using the Soulflame mechanic, you can slow down time and unleash a mysterious power hidden within crystals to solve puzzles, reveal memories of another souls’ pasts, and take on challenges scattered on every level for the completionist.
3. Takeshi & Hiroshi – $8.99
This game tells a heart-warming story of the two brothers — Takeshi and Hiroshi. The older brother Takeshi is creating a game for the bed-ridden Hiroshi who always gets excited to try his brother’s creations. It is your job as Takeshi to control how the game plays; you’ll need to balance between Hiroshi’s enjoyment by adding challenges but also prevent him from losing too much. The cute premise and claymation visual style makes it one interesting Switch indie game. The game is also available on Apple Arcade.
2. A Short Hike – $7.99
A simple, short adventure with a “classic 3D” visual style that reminds me of older Animal Crossing titles. In A Short Hike, you play as the adventurous little blackbird Claire who got bored on a vacation and now decided to explore the mountainside landscapes of Hawk Peak Provincial Park. Hike, swim, and soar through the vast wilderness either by following marked roads or through the unbeaten paths until you reach the summit. Meet friendly animal pals and collect treasures on your way there.
1. Spiritfarer – $29.99
As the spiritfarer Stella, a ferry master to the deceased, your task in this game is building your boat and befriending spirits before releasing them into the afterlife. Spiritfarer also includes two-player local cooperative mode, making this cozy management sim a perfect title for you and your loved one to spend the weekend with.
