For those completely unaware of the foreign-language films that are abounded around the world, Indian actor and film producer Shah Rukh Khan stars as the titular character in the film Panthaan. The film revolves around an exiled agent (Khan) who works with an ISI agent to help take down a former RAW agent who is deviously planning to release a deadly virus across all of India.
Shah Rukh Khan’s Film is a Big Hit in India over the Weekend
Khan has been in the industry since the 1980s and starred in films like Chalte Chalte, Paheli, and Don: The Chase Begins Again. He has won several Bollywood Movie Awards and BIG Star Entertainment Awards and has cemented himself as a well-respected actor and producer in the Bollywood industry.
Panthaan has collected a global box-office take of Rs 1037 crore, with Rs 389 crore from overseas. The budget of the foreign film was ₹240 crore, which translates to about $30 million.
The film, directed by Siddharth Anand, broke multiple box-office records and, ultimately, became the highest opener for a Bollywood film. Moreover, the film earned over Rs 360 crore in its first week alone and even defeated Aamir Khan’s film Dangal from 2016 after two weeks in theaters.
Pathaan is KShah Rukhhan’s highest-grossing hit and comes as a reason for much celebration to the actor after his films had been unable to perform at the box office, according to The Indian Express.
Actor Akshay Kumar’s Selfiee, on the other hand, was struggling incredibly at the box office in comparison to Panthaan. Kumar’s film failed to dazzle at the box office and only earned about Rs 15 crore for its second weekend. This is the actor’s fifth bomb in a row, after Bachchan Paandey, Samrat Prithviraj, Ram Setu, and Raksha Bandhan.
The box office may not equate to actual quality in a film, but it certainly does help when trying to turn a profit for your studio.
