Magikarp is perhaps the most underrated Pokémon to exist, yet they evolve into a powerhouse of a pocket monster. The near useless and cute carp are splashing about the Galar Wild Area to help ring in the new year, though, and the chances of catching a shiny one are much higher.
Hey, Trainers! Have we got a deal just for you! January 1–3, you’ll have an increased chance of finding Shiny Magikarp in Max Raid Battles! And it won’t cost you anything.”
To kick off 2020, Nintendo is increasing the chance of trainers running into more shiny Magikarp in Pokémon dens in Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield, but it’s only for a few days. Trainers can encounter Magikarp in Max Raid Battles will have a much higher chance of being shiny.
To take advantage of these better odds in a Max Raid Battle, you’ll need to connect your Nintendo Switch system to the internet. Then, when you see a pillar of light shining from a Pokémon Den in the Wild Area, you can walk up to the Pokémon Den and interact with it to start a Max Raid Battle with a Dynamax Pokémon.”
To make sure you’ve encountered a one of a kind shiny Magikarp, look for one with a pale or golden scales instead of the vibrant orange ones. Another bonus to encountering the elusive fish Pokémon is you will receive nuggets after either catching or defeating one. One of the best things about this event is the chance to add one or multiple, shiny Gyarados to your team as well.
