Sifu has further cemented its place as a Game of the Year candidate with some impressive sales numbers. Developer Sloclap announced today that unit sales of the hit action game have surpassed one million. Sifu players across PC and PlayStation have recorded over ten million hours played in a short amount of time. In that time, 45% of players have made it past the tough second level of the game, but only 150,000 have gone on to defeat Yang and reach the end.
In regards to the game’s critical acclaim, Alexis Garavaryan, CEO of Kepler Interactive, had this to say.
The team at Sloclap has crafted something truly exceptional that resonates with gamers everywhere. Sifu is an immediate success but took several years of work, which has its roots in Absolver and the team’s desire to redefine the contours of the martial arts game. We thank our friends at PlayStation and Epic who gave us top-notch support and great visibility.
To celebrate all of Sifu‘s success, Sloclap released a new trailer.
About the game
In Sifu, players fight their way through a fictional Chinese city to exact revenge on the game’s antagonist, Yang. There are many challenging enemy encounters along the way to put your skills to the test. To overcome these challenges, players must master Kung Fu and also rely on a magical pendant to restore life. The catch is that your character ages every time you fall in battle. Once you reach a certain threshold, it’s game over, and you have to start from the beginning. It’s a great motivation tool.
Throughout development, Sloclap worked with Kowloon Nights studio to ensure aspects of Chinese culture were used appropriately. Consultants from multiple Chinese game studios offered input on everything from character design to parts of the environment. A ton of care undoubtedly went into this game, and it shows.
Sifu is Sloclap’s second title, following 2017’s Absolver. This studio has a knack for action games. Sifu sales numbers continue to rise, and now is a great time to get in on the action. Sifu is available now on PlayStation 4 and 5, as well as on PC via the Epic Games Store.
