Skylanders took the world by storm when Spyro and friends debuted on video game consoles back in 2011, earning $3.5 billion and selling more than 300 million toys. On the verge of its second season, Skylanders Academy hopes to emulate that success on the backs of talented actors like Felicia Day, who will be playing Cynder.
The character has had many roles in the Spyro universe before, appearing in The Legend of Spyro series and the Skylanders video games, but this will be the first time she has appeared in the Netflix series. The female dragon will join the heroic adventures of Spyro (Justin Long), Eruptor (Jonathan Banks), Stealth Elf (Ashley Tisdale), Jet-Vac (Jonny Rees), Pop Fizz (Bobcat Goldthwait) and their team of young warriors as they travel the vast Skylands universe protecting it from evil-doers.
Cynder has a long way to go before she can keep up with the others though, as she can be seen struggling in the training clip above. She will just be one of the many new cadets too, as Grey Griffin will join the Skylanders Academy roster as Sproket, a tech head extraordinaire who can repair any bad situation.
It should be interesting to see how Cynder’s backstory differs from her video game counterpart, as the game saw her raised under evil influences, only to be freed by Spyro.
The sophomore season of Skylanders Academy will see our heroes seeking answers from the past, as Spyro begins a search for information about his ancestors in order to harness and understand his special powers. Meanwhile, Kaos quest to bring evil rule to the Skylands realms accidentally unleashes a villain more powerful than anything Kaos or the Skylander warriors have ever faced.
Be sure to Catch up on Season One now, streaming on Netflix, as Skylanders Academy Season Two arrives tomorrow, October 6th, 2017. For more information about Skylanders Academy, visit the shows official site.
