Super Smash Bros. Ultimate‘s updates are said to be coming to an end with Fighters Pass Vol 2. If you’re still not satisfied with the game’s roster (“Too many anime swordsmen!”, for example), then you might want to take a look at Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl, coming this Fall 2021 on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Nintendo Switch. It is currently being developed by Ludosity, makers of the well-received Smash-like game Slap City. As expected from the name, this Smash Bros clone will stars characters from Nickelodeon properties instead of Nintendo gaming mascots. Barely any swordsmen here!
Interestingly, Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl will feature more than just recent and popular Nickelodeon shows like SpongeBob, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Loud House. But reps from classic cartoons such as Danny Phantom, Hey Arnold!, Invader Zim, and even Ren and Stimpy and Aaahh!!! Real Monsters, will show up as well. Other than characters, Nickelodeon’s new fighting game will have 20 themed levels, from Jellyfish Fields to TMNT‘s Technodrome, along with both singleplayer and multiplayer game modes, allowing you to put your skills to the test in competitive matches online or local multiplayer for up to four players.
It seems All-Star Brawl is the third Nickelodeon crossover-themed Smash Bros clone. The first one was a series of browser-based games called the Super Brawl, then later together with developer PLAYSOFT (licensed Tour de France 2021 tie-in) the company made a fighting game titled Super Brawl Universe for Android and iOS which also had classic cartoon reps like Rocko. From the reveal trailer above, so far the roster in Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl includes:
- Aaahh!!! Real Monsters: Oblina
- Danny Phantom: Danny
- Hey, Arnold!: Helga
- Invader Zim: Zim
- Loud House: Lincoln, Lucy
- Ren and Stimpy: Powdered Toast Man
- Rugrats: Reptar
- SpongeBob SquarePants: Spongebob, Patrick, Sandy
- The Wild Thornberrys: Nigel
- TMNT: Michaelangelo, Leonardo
Though you can also make out some additional characters judging from the silhouettes in the temporary box art. I’m pretty sure Korra and Catdog will become part of the base roster too. Considering Ludosity managed to add “fan-favorite” Nigel Thornberry, the chance for zanier characters also becoming playable might be high. With that in mind, who are you hoping to get added into Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl? Tell us your ideas in the comments below.
