Something Is Killing The Children issue 21 is getting a surprise ashcan comic. The issue, which hits shelves later this month, will see Erica Slaughter return to take on a new case. Erica Slaughter’s reappearance has made the issue one of the most anticipated of the month. In fact, the horror series has been nothing but success for Boom Studios. Now, Bleeding Cool has broken the news of this ashcan variant hitting comic book shops. This will indeed send fans running to their local comic book shop to make sure they get one of these ultra-rare issues.
What Exactly Is An Ashcan Comic?
For those who may not know why this news is such a big deal, an ashcan comic is a limited variant of a traditional comic. Generally, an ashcan comic is just created to establish trademarks for potential titles. These often contained “unfinished” looking comics with unlettered stories, unfinished art, and so on. In effect, they are just to ensure that a publisher claims a title.
For example, Marvel may send out an ashcan called “Super Frank and His friends.” The insides may just include simple outlines or even just rough sketches. This issue will just ensure that competitors cannot make a similar comic.
What Will This One Look Like?
According to Bleeding Cool, this will not be a traditional ashcan comic. In fact, it will be the same content as issue #21, just with a few tweaks. For starters, the cover will be different from the general release. It will feature an all-black matte cover with a glossy image of a monster harpooned by three pikes. Along with the variant cover, the comic’s interior will be done in black and white. This will make the ashcan copy a very rare item for collectors.
Something Is Killing The Children issue 21 is hitting shelves on February 21, but the ashcan variant is available in comic book shops now. However, don’t hesitate because each comic shop only has one copy to give out.
