While we’ve been hearing next to nothing about it, one of my most highly-anticipated games is Sons of the Forest. After playing the first game with a group of friends back at the start of the pandemic, I’ve been excited to see where the story could go despite the somewhat finite ending of the original. Its imminent release of May 2022 did get me more excited, though it looks like we’ll sadly be waiting a bit longer to see the exciting dream come true. Endnight Games, the developers of Sons of the Forest, have announced that the game is being delayed until October 2022. You can find the announcement tweet below.
Over these past few weeks, we have realized that our May 2022 release date for Sons Of The Forest was overly ambitious. To be able to deliver our vision of the next step in survival games, we’ve decided to move our release date to October 2022

In the tweet itself, the team details that the release window of May 2022 was overly ambitious at best, offering little time to fit everything they wanted to see into the game alongside polishing it to a high standard. As such, to ensure Sons of the Forest is a sequel worthy of its namesake, the team has gone about delaying the game five months to see that through.
If you ask me, while I’m saddened to hear the news, it’s both unsurprising and the right call going forward. With the title being two months out from its planned release window without much to show for it, it’s hard to say no one saw this outcome coming. Usually, teams like to build hype before release, so it just wouldn’t make sense to randomly drop one trailer with the exact release date and that’s it. And besides, the team should ensure we’re getting a great game at launch that honors what a great game the original was. If that means a few more months in the oven, so be it.
Regardless, I’d love to hear your thoughts on the news. Do you think it was the right call for Endnight Games to delay Sons of the Forest to October 2022? What are you most excited about from the game? Let me know!
