Sony has launched a program for PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5 indie developers. The company said it would free loan the PlayStation 5 to game developers. Those who have recently licensed products to Sony as a PlayStation publisher or developer can benefit from this program.
PS5 and PS4 Indies: What is Development Hardware Loan Program
It’s now possible to get a PS5 development kit and one PS5 testing kit thanks to the PlayStation Indies: Development Hardware Loan Program. This new program aims to make PlayStation the best platform for playing and streaming games. Sony says it wants to get new sounds, new ideas, and new experiences from the game development and publishing industry. Possible participants can sign up by going to this link.
“Over the past couple of years, we have been thrilled to support our external publishing partners with features in Indie Spotlight events, indie montage videos on our social channels, and dedicated space for PlayStation Indies on PlayStation,” Greg Rice, Head of PlayStation Creators said in the announcement. “Newly licensed PlayStation game publishers and developers will be eligible to receive one PS5 development kit and one PS5 testing kit, compliments of SIE, subject to applicable terms and conditions.”
Sony also emphasizes its desire to simplify the publishing process for PlayStation consoles and lower entry barriers for the video game industry. The developers may be able to keep these development kits, but since this program is a loan, they might also be required to make some repayment to Sony. You can look at the list of supported countries and areas that may register as a PlayStation partner here. According to PlayStation, when the developers have finished registering, a Sony staff will contact you to discuss the loan’s terms.
