The Sony PSVR2 has already hit shelves, but experts suggest that the VR Headset is likely to have a slow start. The Sony PSVR2 will likely sell less than 300,000 units in the first few weeks of its sale. The company went in the direction of VR Headsets to make a name for itself in the now booming Metaverse Industry.
Sony PSVR2 Projected To Sell Less Than 300K Units
Bloomberg’s Takashi Mochizuki reported that Sony’s PSVR2 will likely sell less than 300,000 units in the first few weeks, which is a pretty slow start for the company.
According to projections, the PSVR2 will sell around 270,000 units at best. The VR headset was initially launched on Feb 22, 2023, and these sales will probably top off at 270,000 at best by the end of March.
But Sony had big goals in mind. The company wanted to sell around 2 million units during the initial launch, but experts suggest otherwise. But let’s be honest, how many of us are actually in the market for a VR headset?
Considering the onslaught of lay-offs, an economic crisis paired with inflation, and the rising cost of living, expenses, and essentials, it’s not hard to imagine that a VR headset isn’t the average gamer’s priority.
And the competition is booming. Meta’s Quest 2 has managed to secure nearly 20 million sales to date, owing to its affordable price point. But how did Sony tackle this logic? Well, a Sony spokesperson declined to comment.
The Sony PSVR2 also needs an equally expensive Sony PS5 to work, and considering the scalping epidemic paired with the high reselling price that is still prevalent to this day, Bloomberg might just be right.
So what do you think of this prediction regarding Sony PSVR2 sales? Will the company hit 300,000 sales before the end of March? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, and stay tuned for more updates on the NerdStash.
