CCTV footage has captured a South Carolina woman’s incredible reaction to winning big on a scratch-off. The video, courtesy of WBTV News, shows the woman’s utter delight as she hugs everyone in sight and struggles to believe her good-fortune.
The big win reportedly takes place at the Fort Mill gas station in South Carolina. According to WBTV News, the woman wins a cool $250k, the sort of amount that would be comprehensible but still life-changing to most of us.
The woman is seen as the scratch-off station at the start of the clip, almost motionless as she scratches off her ticket. Then, suddenly, she turns and looks at the counter with a look of disbelief on her face. As what she’s just achieved begins to sink in, the woman gets more and more animated. She jumps up and down, winning scratch-off clutched in one hand.
What’s particularly endearing about the video is the store employee’s reaction to the woman’s big win. As the woman jumps up and down, he races across and wraps her in a big hug. Presumably she’s a regular the gas station, and it’s lovely how he shares in her delight. “I love how the store owner/manager/employee was soo happy for her!!” one YouTuber commented.
As the woman continues to celebrate in the middle of the store, the employee takes the scratch-off to process it. The woman’s readiness to give up the scratch-off so readily surprised some commenters. “I wouldn’t let that ticket out my sight…” one said. Others claimed they’d never announce their winnings to strangers in such a way. It’s a sad comment on the state of our society, but the reality is some unscrupulous people might take advantage of such an opportunity.
When he has processed the scratch-off, the store clerk re-joins the woman in her celebrations. She even sinks to her knees at one point, still unable to process quite what’s happened.
It would be a cold-hearted cynic who couldn’t share in the woman’s joy. The scratch-off win obviously means so much to her. And, to see it shared by the store employee adds another heart-warming dimension to the story. Indeed, the video really resonated with some viewers.
