First, let me just get something out of the way. Lemmings do not commit suicide – at least not on purpose. Their instincts drive them to migrate en masse and nonstop until they end up dying of exhaustion or plain stupidity. The good news is, there’s a way we can help them. That’s by playing a game called Lemmings. Okay, so maybe that’s not a real solution, but surely you remember renting this little game for the weekend and then having no idea what to do and never hoping to beat it, right? Well here are a couple speedrunners who know exactly what to do.
NihilistComedyHour couldn’t be more fitting. This guy gets one of the critters to the exit, then blows the rest of them up. It’s a horrific slaughterfest, and you would think watching Lemmings couldn’t possibly be entertaining, but there’s something about it that you just can’t look away from. Maybe this is why none of us could ever beat this game – we tried too hard to save ALL of them.
Contrary to the title, this is NOT an all-levels run, only the Mayhem difficulty ones. And yes, it’s tool-assisted. There’s a lot of bridge-building in these levels, so feel free to click through to the other parts. TASing this game really just lets you time your clicks better, there’s no routing or strategy involved. A brief glimpse at speedrun.com even reveals most of the categories for Lemmings are empty.
And there you have it. Closure. At least the music was pretty chill. Lemmings really isn’t the ideal game for a speedrun, given its nature, but it’s easy to watch for the level solutions. For those of you craving more action and havoc, Dishonored 2 has you covered. So remember, teamwork is good, overworking is bad. That’s the lesson this game strives to teach us.
