In an uncertain and unprecedented time for the film industry, many projects continue to move forward for their eventual releases. Even films that are seemingly farther along the horizon are still being worked on despite all the COVID delays. One such film that has been at the forefront of news is the upcoming Spider-Man 3. Acting as the third film in the web slinger’s Marvel Cinematic Universe, the series has been receiving so much news regarding the casting of previous villains. Jamie Foxx returning as Electro was exciting news in October, but now it seems that the rogue’s gallery will only get larger. Seemingly blending in the previous Spider-Man universes, the newest addition to the upcoming Spider-Man sequel is just as exciting. In a recent report by the Hollywood Reporter, Alfred Molina will be reprising his role as Doctor Octopus for the upcoming Spider-Man 3 film.

Originally featured in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 2, the iconic villain is sure to wreak havoc on Tom Holland’s Spider-Man as well. Since his live-action debut, the esteemed villain has been included in various other Spider-Man properties like Insomniac’s title on PS4. While this casting further rise to rumors of a Spider-Verse film in live-action, the connections to previous universes might just be left out due to a comment by Foxx on Electros updated look. Though the explanations as to Doctor Strange’s connections to the film might hint towards something of that nature, it could just mean that there is a sinister six plotline on the way. As Sony attempts to extend its branch of the Spider-Man universe with Morbius and Venom 2, they’ve also seen many different projects that could play a role in explaining the unique choices for returning villains.
