Classic Marvel heroine Spider-Woman will receive her own comic book series. Written by Karla Pacheco and Pere Perez, Jessica Drew is coming back into the spotlight. Spider-Woman has never shied away from a battle and according to Pacheco, a battle is what’s coming. The new series is coming in 2020.
Details for the new series are scarce. The synopsis for the first issue reveals that Jessica takes on a mysterious new job. This will lead her into conflict with foes, both old and new, with plenty of people trying to stop her. Karla Pacheco states that “This is big, can’t-miss, over-the-top action, some very surprising ‘venom blasts from the pasts,’ and also a TON of helicopter explosions.” For more about the series from Pacheco, click here.
Spider-Woman Legacy
Jessica Drew has long been a fan-favorite Marvel character. She has had six previous Spider-Woman series in the past. While people think Spider-Man when they hear Spider-Woman, Jessica has carved out a persona for herself that isn’t tied to the iconic arachnid. Despite this, Spider-Woman aided the Spider-Army in defeating the Inheritors during the Spider-Verse and Spider-Geddon storylines.
Jessica Drew has had a tumultuous superhero career. Previous writers have retconned her origin story numerous times. Spider-Woman has faced many trials in her career, from being a brainwashed agent of Hydra to being supplanted by a Skrull in the Secret Invasion arc. Despite these experiences, Jessica continues the good fight against evil, whether it be solo or as an Avenger. She also has a young son named Gerry who has inherited her powers. However, this doesn’t stop her from answering the call when needed.
Spider-Woman #1 will release March 2020 in comic stores, the Marvel Comics app, and Marvel.com. How do you think her seventh comic series will fare? Is there anybody that you hope she bumps into on her new adventure? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
