Nintendo has been working quite consistently on its upcoming games for the 2022 calendar year. While the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild sequel delay put some things into perspective, it’s clear they’ve been working quite hard to bring new titles to the Switch to extend the lifespan of the console. While these releases have had to play into the limitations of the Nintendo Switch, many titles have seen success. Such is the case with the eponymous warriors game series. Spawning two sequels across two franchises, it’s great for a series that has always struggled to maintain a western audience. Likewise, the success of the switch was an opportunity for Nintendo. Critically launching Splatoon 2 in the first few months of the console’s release was a genius way to draw in more players. Now almost three years since the sequel, Nintendo is ready to finally release the third iteration of Splatoon. Announced last February, Splatoon 3 finally receives a release date trailer debuting on Switch this September.
When Does Splatoon 3 Release?
While the trailer itself is a short overview of the game, it does showcase how some of the gameplay has varied over time. The original Splatoon game gained some popularity for its uniqueness on the WiiU, but many were turned away by the control scheme. Yet, Nintendo Switch Joy-Cons are perfect for the motion control painting game. While the original pitted two teams against each other in an ink war, the sequels only added even more tools to help a player win. Showing off a turf battle for the main gameplay, the camera pans to many different players on the map. Featuring new maps and weaponry to use, Splatoon 3 launches this year on September 9th.
