Nickelodeon together with THQ Nordic and its subsidiary HandyGames has just announced that they are going to re-release SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom – Rehydrated to iOS and Android as a premium title. Simply titled SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom – Rehydrated Mobile, the game will be ready to set sail on January 21, 2021, with full controller support, and priced at $9.99. Pre-order and pre-register are now open over on both Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
If you are wondering whether HandyGames can bring the colorful and cartoony visual from console and PC into mobile, I think it did a fine job at that. Well, at least judging from the mobile in-game footage you can watch below.
Our review gave the console version of SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom a solid three-out-of-five stars. Stating that the game is a “great throwback” to a long-forgotten platformer and collect-a-thon genre. And thanks to its visual and clever writing, it definitely “feels like an episode” of the hit children’s cartoon show.
SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom was previously released for PC via Steam, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on June 23, 2020. The Google Stadia version followed a bit later on December 8, 2020. This faithful remake of one of the most popular SpongeBob games ever does not just feature high-end visuals for modern resolutions but also online and offline horde multiplayer mode along with restored content that was cut from the original game like the Robo Squidward boss fight and more. It’s still not known though if SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom – Rehydrated Mobile will keep the multiplayer mode or not, unfortunately. Have you tried the remaster on console or PC? Will you be giving this mobile port a try someday? Tell us what you think of it in the comments.
