Role-playing games have always changed shape with the various decades that presented them. Yet while many RPGs are remembered fondly, few will recognize or even remember the Ogre Battle franchise. Developed by Quest Corporation in 1993 for the SNES, the tactical isometric RPG had a lot of great ideas. Remembered as a success for pushing the tactics gameplay further, it spawned two eventual sequels and two spin-off games. While the series is a favorite amongst classic tactical RPG fans, the beloved games served as great inspiration for other amazing titles. The main interest in the series had waned in the early 2000s. Square Enix eventually bought the company and had the developers work on the Final Fantasy Tactics franchise. Yet, the titles have always been a big part of that series’ past. Now, Square Enix is finally returning to one of their earliest tactics video games. Trademarked today was a listing by Square Enix for an upcoming game called Tactics Ogre: Reborn.

What Does Square Enix Trademarking Ogre Tactics: Reborn Mean?
While not a direct announcement or confirmation, it certainly gives fans hope. Despite the franchise as a whole having laid dormant, this is one of the first times Square Enix has paid for a new listing. Yet, the company is no stranger to remakes or remasters. This new entry might just be something wholly unique. It could also just be a new version of a classic Tactics Ogre game. Alongside the new editions of the Valkyrie game franchise, Square Enix is certainly set on revivals in new flashy ways. While it’s more than likely a remake of a previous title, the trademark is a bit vague. A newly remastered game would be a great step up from the 2010 remake of the second game in the franchise, which was released on the PSP. Be sure to check back for more news on Ogre Tactics: Reborn.
