The military gaming charity organization Stack Up has set a new personal record for fundraising from last year’s efforts. Throughout 2021, the gaming community continuously donated funds to support the mental health of US and Allied Veterans. Their primary goal is to end veteran suicide through the power of video game engagement. Stack Up will continue its promising work into the new year, with much thanks to the many contributors who have helped.
Stack Up: A Support for Those Who Fought for Us
In 2021, Stack Up accumulated $1,204,343 through the gaming community’s incredible gestures. Through Twitch and YouTube, streamers and their communities rounded up over $810,000 to show their support. This includes the Call to Arms Live event that occurred during the Veterans Day weekend, where the event’s $50,000 goal greatly exceeded expectations.
Stack Up provides several services to active and recovering military members through the use of Supply Crates. These act as video game care packages that contain titles, systems, and accessories – anything to bring therapy to those who have been through hell. In light of the record-breaking news for Stack Up, the company will work toward helping veterans in person, too. As COVID-19 vaccinations continue to roll out to the public, more in-person events will invite veterans to attend pop culture and video game conventions and activities. This gives veterans a chance to meet new people who might have similar interests as them.
Stephen Machuga, Executive Director at Stack Up, expressed his admiration for the fundraising endeavors:
It’s easy to keep track of fundraising, and we’re proud of our numbers, but we can’t forget that this is about the people we’re helping. Our Overwatch program alone had over 430 interactions with veterans in need, almost three times as many as we had in 2020. We couldn’t have gotten there without our amazing team, as well as all the incredible fans believing in what we’re doing for veterans who donate to Stack Up year over year!”
