PC, Xbox One, and PS4 owners will want to adjust their schedules, because EA’s Star Wars Battlefront 2 beta becomes available this week. The date depends on whether or not you paid for early access. If you did, the force will be with you this Wednesday starting at 3:00 a.m. central time.
Those who didn’t shell out have the long and arduous wait until Friday. Either way, the beta ends for everyone on Monday, October 9 at 11:00 a.m. central time. There are four different modes to try out during that time, so best get to it.
Star Wars Battlefront 2 includes Galactic Assault, a 20v20 combat mode happening in Theed, Naboo’s capital. Starfighter Assault sees the good old X-Wings, TIE fighters, et al duking it out in the deep vacuum above Fondor, while Strike is a much smaller 8v8 version of Galactic Assault, this time taking place at Maz Kanata’s castle. Finally, we have Arcade mode, which removes the story for the beta and has players mow down AI enemies in a series of missions. The full game will feature customizable scenarios.
Lastly, in the proud tradition of granting players bonus stuff for playing betas and demos, Star Wars Battlefront 2 will gift its test monkeys with an exclusive emote for Darth Maul as well.
Did you think that was everything? Nope, the reward “Founder’s Crate” also has a rare and shiny Trooper Star Card and plenty of credits to give you a starting boost. Also, note that your progress in the beta will not carry over to the full game.
Star Wars Battlefront 2 releases in full on November 17, 2017. The story seems promising (from a certain point of view), so don’t expect any spoilers from me. If you want to know about it ahead of time, you’ll just have to use the force – by which I mean the Internet.
