Marvel Comics is teaming up with Lucasfilm to release Pride variant covers for Star Wars Comics. These variants will debut on all of Marvel’s Star Wars titles beginning in June. They will showcase LGBTQ+ characters from across the entire Star Wars galaxy. Plus, each cover comes from an incredible lineup of LGBTQ+ talent.
Which Star Wars Comics Characters Are in the Collection?
For this year’s Pride celebration, the Star Wars Pride variants will feature a wide array of famous characters. Up first is fan-favorite and star of her own ongoing series, Doctor Aphra. The Galactic Archeologist and former Darth Vader ally is getting the Pride treatment this year. Next, fellow archeologist and Doctor Aphra’s arch-nemesis Kho Phon Farrus is getting a special variant.
Meanwhile, former handmaidens to Padmé Amidala, Sabe, Sache, and Yane are gracing one of these Pride covers. This trio is currently playing a pivotal role in the Star Wars: Darth Vader series. Also getting a special Pride cover is T’onga. The former bounty hunter is currently starring in Star Wars: Bounty Hunter, along with her wife, Losha. Also, Jedi Padawans of the High Republic era Lula Talisola and Seen Mrala are on one of these special covers.
Vi Moradi, the resistance spy stationed at the Black Spire Outpost at Batuu, is another character gracing the Pride covers. Finally, Larma D’Acy and her wife Wrobie Tyce round out the characters featured in the special Pride Variant covers. Larma is known for her appearances in Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Rise of Skywalker.
Who Are Some of The Artists Behind These Covers?
Each of the special variant covers is on display over at Starwars.com. Along with the covers, the artists behind each one shared their excitement to add to the Star Wars universe. These artists include Jan Bazaldua, who crafted the Pride variant for Star Wars: Bounty Hunters #24. Derek Charm handles Star Wars: Obi-Wan #2 featuring Kho Phon Farrus. He shares that it is fun to be a part of a universe that is “infinitely inclusive and diverse.”
Meanwhile, Kei Zama showcases Sabe, Sache, and Yane on the Pride variant for Star Wars: Darth Vader #24. Phil Jimenez puts Vi Moradi front and center for Star Wars: The Mandalorian #1. JJ Kirby puts married couple Larma D’Acy and Wrote Tyce on the cover of Star Wars #25. Next, Javier Garron adds Lula Talisola and Zeen Mrala to Han Solo & Chewbacca #4’s Pride variant. Finally, Paulina Ganucheau adorns Star Wars: Doctor Aphra #22 with the Doctor herself.
