Fans of the Star Wars universe already have a lot of video games to look forward to in the coming years, including the sequel to Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order, Star Wars: Jedi Survivor, and the Knights of The Old Republic Remake. But it seems Disney has even more planned for the future. According to the sources for Insider Gaming, the company wants to release two new Star Wars games in each fiscal year, including one AAA game and a relatively smaller title. It is difficult to say if this will include games like the HD remasters Aspyr has released in the last few years or if those games will continue to come out along with completely new titles.
The Star Wars franchise has no shortage of titles, far from it. Over the last 40 years, the Star Wars universe has gotten a shocking number of games. Starting with 1982’s The Empire Strikes Back on the Atari 2600. Star Wars games have later cemented themselves as a crucial part of the universe’s canon, it is now the norm to see elements from games like Jedi: Fallen Order having some influence in shows like Obi-Wan Kenobi.
New Star Wars Games
Hopefully, the new games planned to be released each year will have a good level of quality. Two releases per year are not exactly problematic or unheard of, especially when a AAA title comes out accompanied by a smaller project. While most fans are eagerly waiting for the Jedi: Survivor game, there are undoubtedly others who would like the Star Wars franchise to dabble into other genres of gaming. A Star Wars dating-sim, perhaps? Who wouldn’t want to romance Darth Vader?
For now, this news should be taken with a healthy serving of salt. While this is definitely in the realm of possibility and maybe even good for the Star Wars universe, sources can get information wrong sometimes. And if not, unannounced plans can often change at a moment’s notice.
