Earlier today, PlayStation held a State of Play entirely dedicated to one of its upcoming exclusive releases. For the first time, fans got a look at actual gameplay from Horizon Forbidden West on a PlayStation 5, and there was a lot to show off.
They showcased 14 minutes of gameplay from Horizon Forbidden West before deep-diving into everything shown. Narratively, the clip focuses on Aloy rushing to rescue a familiar face, Erend, from a group of rebel raiders. She must swim, climb and fight her way through the San Francisco ruins to save her friend.. and continue on to fight The Blight.
The State of Play showcase for Horizon Forbidden West showed off a handful of new creatures like Tremortusks, Clawstriders, aquatic robots, and more. The focus now highlights climbing spots for easier traversal along with a sort-of claw shot. A shield wing allows Aloy to fall safely from great heights, and a diving mask allows for underwater traversal.
The new abilities showed during the State of Play paired with evolving combos with the bow, spear, and other weapons allow for innovative and adaptable gameplay. Aloy can now throw darts, and a new slingshots shoot adhesive ammo to help slow down other animals.
Horizon Forbidden West was originally announced during the PlayStation 5 Reveal event last June. Since then, fans have been hungry for more info. Unfortunately, fans of the franchise will have to wait a little longer for a release date because one was not announced during the State of Play. A PC release was not discussed, but it will release on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
The first game, Horizon: Zero Dawn, is available now on PlayStation and PC, along with its only DLC, The Frozen Wilds.
