Many shows have aired for decades. They increase in age with those who star in them. And with the passage of time, we must also learn to say goodbye. One of the most popular actors on General Hospital, Stuart Damon, has officially ‘left the building.’
Stuart Damon Dead at 84 Years Old
Stuart Damon is recognizable to fans in the role of Dr. Alan Quartermaine. His role in both General Hospital and its spinoff spanned entire decades. Unfortunately, the actor has passed due to renal failure at the age of 84. While it is a role he is most known for, he has many more accolades.
From 1965 to 1969, the actor starred in a number of productions. It included such things as The Champions TV show, The New Avengers, and Man of Magic. It wasn’t until the late 1970s that Stuart Damon joined the General Hospital roster. ‘Arriving on the show,’ Quartermaine’s initial objective began with helping add more buildings to the hospital. The actor said of his own character once, “He’s really one of the most interesting characters around. He’s loving one day, but he’s also a failed murderer who wound up in a hospital on two occasions…”
Despite being nominated many times for awards, Stuart Damon did not win a Daytime Emmy for some time. It wasn’t until the actor’s character had drug issues that his performance earned him the accolade. And in typical soap opera fashion, the character’s exit involved dying off as the result of a heart attack. And though the character was killed off, Quartermaine would regularly appear in flashback sequences.
Stuart Damon said he made the effort for Quartermaine to be an enigma. It wasn’t until it was too late that people would see if he were good or bad. The objective was to personify the idea of a ‘double-edged sword.’
Our condolences to the family of actor Stuart Damon. May he rest in peace.
