A new Super Smash Bros Ultimate trailer has dropped, outlining all the exciting new features for the upcoming title. The new “Overview” trailer goes over a ton of the game’s features to get both hardcore fans excited and newcomers informed about Super Smash Bros Ultimate. The trailer lasts for 7 minutes and is chock full of exciting information. The trailer can be viewed below.
The trailer begins with explaining the basic battle mechanics of Super Smash Bros Ultimate. This is likely targeted at the new audience that will be playing Smash Bros for the first time. Next, new fighters are discussed. Over 74 fighters will be available at launch from a myriad of Nintendo titles, spanning multiple decades and platforms. The 75th fighter, Piranha Plant will be available as a pre-order bonus after release.
The Announcer, the titular voice of Super Smash Bros, went on to discuss the massive number of stages in Super Smash Bros Ultimate. The game will come with over 100 stages at launch with more to come as DLC in the future. Stages will have multiple forms and hazards to keep battles moving. Items, Pokemon, and assist trophies were also discussed. Over 50 Pokemon and 55 Assist Trophies will be in the game at launch.
Next, the new rule customization options were outlined. You can now preset you game mode as Time, Stamina, and Stock. The new Final Smash Meters can be turned on and off before battle as well as the new Stage Morph feature which changes the entire stage mid-battle.
As for single player features, Super Smash Bros Ultimate provides a ton to do. Classic Mode makes a return, as well as new modes; Squad Strike, Tourney and Smash Down allow for a slew of things to do outside of the regular smash mode.
A more in-depth look at Super Smash Bros Ultimate’s most mysterious and contentious feature, Spirits, was shown. Spirits are the new collectibles replacing Trophies in the game. Collecting Spirits helps your characters level up, giving them buffs and new abilities. This carries over to the World of Light single player mode. This seems to be Ultimate’s replacement for Subspace Emissary.
