It seems the Girl of Steel will soar her way into the big screen. According to Deadline, Warner Bros. and DC are planning to get Supergirl her own movie, with director Oren Uziel in the works. However, the movie does not have any producer on board at the moment.
Currently, actress Melissa Benoist portrays the cousin of Superman in the CW adaptation, simply titled Supergirl. The show is about to debut its fourth season later this fall, alongside the other CW shows. Warner Bros. has a track of keeping its movies and tv shows as their own separate universes, unlike Marvel. In fact, the series has already introduced their own version of Superman who is portrayed by actor Tyler Hoechlin, who is also known for his work in the supernatural show, Teen Wolf. This could potentially cause concern for the fate of the CW show.
Previously, the writers of Arrow had to drop off a potential storyline that involved the Suicide Squad, since Warner Bros. did not want the same version of their characters on screen and pave way for their movie versions. However, Supergirl already has garnered massive popularity and the character herself is integral to the CW’s established universe, so it could be possible that it continues. Especially considering that the CW’s Flash is still in the air and Ezra Miller’s Flash does not look like it will leave any soon.
Warner Bros. has not given any concrete update for Man of Steel 2. In fact, it the studio already has its hands full with other movie announcements that they have planned. Among these is a movie adaptation for Birds of Prey as well as an origin Joker story, which is a standalone movie that will not feature Jared Leto’s version. This year, Aquaman will make his standalone debut in theaters on December 21st. Following the King of Atlantis’ movie release, Shazam and the sequel for Wonder Woman will hit theaters next year.
