Supergirl has had her time in the limelight in DC’s Arrowverse – now, it’s Superman’s turn.
It’s the news many an Arrowverse fan has dreamt about – Superman is getting his own CW TV series, with Lois starring to boot.
The series, Deadline tells us, is titled Superman & Lois, is being developed by the CW for its Arrowverse and will have Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch reprise the title roles. Greg Berlanti, who seems to work on just about every hit show on television nowadays, will produce the series with showrunner Todd Helbing, who worked on The Flash.
The title itself instantly brings to mind the 90’s TV series Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman. And if the series’ logline is anything to go by, it seems to share a similar humanistic sentiment to that show:
The world’s most famous superhero (Hoechlin) and comic books’ most famous journalist (Tulloch) deal with all the stress, pressures and complexities that come with being working parents in today’s society.
It’s definitely a different description than what many would expect from a Superman show. Whereas the recent movies have focused on the Hollywood action, this series will seemingly focus on the more human aspects of the character, his relationship with Lois and his child.
This could also well mean that 90’s Superman Dean Cain’s hopes of a Lois and Clark reboot are well and truly squashed – the series finale of said show was heading towards the same plot. The CW are essentially creating L&C for a new generation of fans.
Meanwhile, Stephen Amell has given his support for Superman & Lois and its stars on Twitter, describing them as “two of the nicest people [he’s] ever had the pleasure of [working] with” and declaring that the show “is going to be a hit!”
.@tylerhoechlin & @BitsieTulloch are two of the nicest people I’ve ever had the pleasure of work ring with. Superman & Lois is going to be a hit! Go get em guys!
