Last night (August 16), it was announced that Jordan Elsass would not return to Superman & Lois as Jonathan Kent for the series’ third season. The actor did not meet the deadline to return to Vancouver to shoot the next season for the CW series. Deadline reports various possible reasons for his abrupt departure, painting an unclear picture of the situation.
The statement from Warner Bros. cited that the Superman & Lois actor left due to “personal issues,” which Deadline reports as mental health related. The show’s producers eventually became aware of the issues. Jordan Elsass or his representation did not leave a statement about his exit.
A possible reason that the outlet reported was his COVID-19 vaccination status. As it is currently unknown, it was believed that he had an exception to give him entry into Canada to film the last season, although vaccinations are required to enter the country. While sources at Deadline cited this to be a cause, it is unknown if the actor’s vaccination status is the real reason for him not to return to Superman & Lois. It is also unclear if he left or was fired from the show.
Jordan Elsass is to be replaced as Jonathan Kent in Superman & Lois
Superman & Lois is created by Arrowverse producers Greg Berlanti and Todd Helbing, who serve as writers and executive producers. The soon-to-be-replaced role is the son of its titled lead characters, played by Tyler Hoechlin (Teen Wolf) as the Man of Steel and Elizabeth Tulloch (Grimm) as Lois. The series explores how to balance the life of a superhero and a personal life, with a great focus on the two protagonists’ relationship. The series also stars Erik Valdez (Graceland), Inde Navarrette (13 Reasons Why), Wolé Parks (Yellowstone), Dylan Walsh (Nip/Tuck), and Emmanuelle Chriqui (Murder in the First).
The series is currently available on the CW app. There is no date for the third season.
