Coming off a big year for both Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell, the two stars are set to lead in Sony and Will Gluck’s untitled rom-com, as reported by Deadline. Gluck will direct the R-rated romantic comedy.
No plot details are known. Besides the two stars, Gluck directing, and it being R-rated, not much about it is known. The only other major detail to be noted is that it is coming off a script originally written by High School Musical: The Musical: The Series‘ Ilana Wolpert, which Gluck is rewriting.
Sydney Sweeney will serve as an executive producer of the rom-com. This marks her second producing job as she is producing her upcoming horror movie, Immaculate. Natalie Sellers and Alyssa Altman will executive produce with the Euphoria star. Joe Roth, Jeff Kirschenbaum, and Gluck will produce.
After Sony got the film under its belt last year, it had to navigate a tough schedule due to Sydney Sweeney shooting the next season of Euphoria before jumping to the rom-com. Shooting is expected to begin at the end of February.
Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell lead rom-com from Will Gluck
Director Gluck is known for his 2010 comedy Easy A. In the years since, he has directed two Peter Rabbit films, Friends with Benefits, and more. On top of this latest film on his schedule, he is working on an action buddy comedy with Chris Bremner (Bad Boys for Life) called End of the World.
Sydney Sweeney joining the rom-com comes in the middle of her grand success with Euphoria. She has done a lot of work in recent years that has shot her to the moon to be one of the new shining stars in Hollywood. She started gaining major traction from Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time… In Hollywood. For TV, she was a part of the ensemble cast of the first season of Mike White’s HBO comedy, The White Lotus.
For Glen Powell in the rom-com, it is a good way for him to keep up his pacing. Last year, the star was one of the leads in Tom Cruise’s explosive Top Gun: Maverick. He kept in the air with another military film, Devotion, with Jonathan Majors. His other known work consists of Hidden Figures and Scream Queens.
