2022 has been a breakout year for actress Sydney Sweeney. After stealing scenes on HBO’s Euphoria, the actress is ready for a new kind of project. According to a report from Deadline, Sydney Sweeney will co-star in Sony Picture’s upcoming Madame Web. For this project, Sweeney will be sharing the spotlight in an unknown role alongside actress Dakota Johnson, who will play the titular role.
Madame Web is one of the many Marvel movies being developed by Sony for their own Marvel universe of Spider-Man characters. The characters in Madame Web will share the same cinematic universe as those from other Sony movies like Tom Hardy’s Venom and Jared Leto’s Morbius. Whether either of those characters will make an appearance in Madame Web remains a mystery — for now.
Sony Picture’s Madame Web is set to be directed by S.J. Clarkson. Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless are writing the screenplay. However, Kerem Sanga developed a previous draft of the movie.
Regardless of how the script works out, it will likely change much about the character from the Spider-Man comics and their deceptions of Madame Web. In them, Madame Web is an older woman living with myasthenia gravis, forcing her to be connected to an extensive life-support system. Because of this, Madame Web is not like other superheroes; she does not fight villains or swing around NYC. The writers may choose to make significant changes to the character to make her more cinematic.
Who is Sydney Sweeney?
If you are under the age of 30, you likely recognize Sydney Sweeney from HBO’s hit series Euphoria or from one of her Euphoria scenes popping up on TikTok. Euphoria is HBO’s second most-viewed show, and Sweeney is perhaps its most notable scene-stealer. However, Sweeney has also appeared in other projects, including HBO’s White Lotus, Amazon’s The Voyeurs, and Blumhouse’s Nocturne.
