The end is nigh as the final season of Ted Lasso production is closing in on wrapping up, Deadline reports. As the final episodes shoot of what is supposed to be the last season, the cast and crew are having a tough time saying goodbye to the wholesome soccer (or football for international readers) series from Apple TV.
When talking to Deadline, Hannah Waddingham, who plays the owner of AFC Richmond, Rebecca Welton, said how she was “not ready to say goodbye” and what the show meant to her.
“Brett [Goldstein] and I were talking about [saying goodbye] earlier and we’re both a little bit in denial but have been expecting it since the word go at the same time,” she said to Deadline. “It’s like a long, slow mourning. I love her, man. She’s the girl—my girl— that I’m walking along next to and serving. I know that sounds dramatic but that’s how I feel. I feel her rippling through my bloodstream and I’m not ready to not walk with her anymore.”
Ted Lasso Season 3 Production Nears the End
Executive producer, co-writer, and star of fan-favorite character Roy Kent, Goldstein, said in an interview with The Sunday Times that the third would be the final season of Ted Lasso; at least they were “writing it like that.” Co-creator Bill Lawrence of Scrubs fame told Deadline last October that was the plan by saying, “we said this series was only going to be three seasons.”
Co-creator, executive producer, and star of the titular character Jason Sudeikis surprised fans and even the cast by ending the series at three, despite the acclaim and seven Emmy wins. Waddingham said she was surprised by the news and how the show changed her life, even her outlook on people.
“I thought Jason would be pushed and pushed [to keep going],” she said. “I have an immense sadness because she’s brought quite a lot to my life. Jason has as well—an immeasurable amount. He has changed my life. He’s changed how I view people.”
What the Series Means to Toheeb Jimoh
Making his name off the show with an Emmy nomination as Sam Obisanya, Toheeb Jimoh feels the same about what the series means to him, what his character means to him, and how he wishes that this was not the end. However, since Apple has not confirmed that this would be the final season of Ted Lasso is the end, who knows what could happen.
“I really identify with this character [Sam Obinsanya], he’s been a dream to play,” he said. “Across this three-season journey, I’ve gotten to understand him as a person. I could play him in my sleep now. It will be extremely difficult to say goodbye to him. I hope there’s more, man, I really do. There are so many more stories to tell. Fingers crossed we get to do that.”
Kola Bokinni’s Experience on the Series
Kola Bokinni, who plays Captain Isaac McAdoo, feels the same about the transformative experience of being on the series, and now with possibly being the final season of Ted Lasso and its production closing, he looks back on the journey that he and his character have been on.
“I’m preparing myself as much as I can,” he said. “I’ve always taken this job one day at a time. I’m enjoying the journey. Working on this show has helped me grow up a little bit. When I started Ted Lasso, I was 26 and soon I’m going to be 30. I’ve gone from being a boy to a man, same as Isaac. I’ve been on quite a journey with him. I will leave the experience with a new understanding of patience and. the importance of listening. Listening is key.”
Not much is known about what’s coming for what’s set to be the final season of Ted Lasso on how the creators plan on ending the series. After a significant shift in alliances at the end of season 2, the last outing should have plenty of laughs, wholesomeness, and drama. No date is announced for the final season.
