Tekken 7 Season Pass 4 was announced today, with Bandai Namco planning a “Fall 2020” release date for the latest update of their most popular fighting franchise. In February 2020, Tekken director Katsuhiro Harada said on Twitter that the series has sold over 49 million copies worldwide. Tekken 7 contributes more than five million sales as of December 2019.
In the video announcement, Tekken 7 Season Pass 4 promised to bring many new features into the game, including but not limited to new movesets for all existing characters, “Tekken Prowess” system that will show up in loading screen and below your health bar, online play enhancements with Wi-Fi indicator, and teasing the arrival of one new character.
There’s still an air of mystery surrounding this new character for Season 4. The trailer just showed a silhouette of a mysterious person with their scarf blowing in the wind, standing on top of the Chureito Pagoda looking over Mount Fuji. Considering how “very ninja-ish” that teaser was, a lot of internet users and long-time Tekken fans are hoping that Kunimitsu, a female ninja character last seen in Tekken 2 as a part of the story, will be making a comeback. Or maybe it’s a teaser for another ninja character, Raven. Or Bandai Namco is just going to reveal a completely new character later? For now, nobody knows.
The news of Tekken 7 Season Pass 4 was confirmed on the Japan Fighting Game Publishers Roundtable stream ran by Bandai Namco Japan, with live translation from Tekken producer Michael Murray and fighting game commentator JIYUNA. As its name stands, the stream was mostly a roundtable discussion between six different Japanese fighting game developers-slash-publishers. The participants were:
- Bandai Namco (Tekken, Soul Calibur)
- Capcom (Street Fighter)
- Arc System Works (Guilty Gear, Dragon Ball FighterZ)
- Arika (Fighting EX Layer)
- SNK (The King of Fighters, Samurai Shodown)
- and Koei Tecmo (Dead or Alive)
