Coming off The Bear, star Ayo Edebiri has joined the 2024 Marvel movie Thunderbolts, Deadline has reported. In classic Marvel fashion, the role is top secret, along with most things about the film beyond some sparse details.
Last year’s D23—Disney’s fan event filled with major announcements—unveiled the team-up movie. Ayo Edebiri will be joining a mix of major and small-time stars in the MCU. The cast so far is Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, Wyatt Russell as U.S. Agent, Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost, Olga Kurylenko as Taskmaster, and Harrison Ford to replace the late William Hurt as Thaddeus Ross, who will also star in Captain America: New World Order.

Jake Schreier (Paper Towns) is set to direct the film, which will begin production in the coming months. Kurt Busiek (Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2) and Marvel movie scribe Eric Pearson (Thor: Ragnarok, Black Widow) wrote the script. The plot is currently under wraps. The seeds have been slowly planted with the recent introductions of new characters like Red Guardian, Yelena, Taskmaster, and more.
Ayo Edebiri being in Thunderbolts is a major boost to her career as she came off a successful debut season for Hulu’s The Bear. Her previous work includes a mix of acting, producing, and writing. She has starred in The Premise and Big Mouth. Writing credits include What We Do in the Shadows and Craig of the Creek.
Phase 5 of the MCU is about to start in February with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. The 2024 team-up movie will be toward the tail end of the chapter of the Multiverse Saga. Along with Disney+ shows, the film schedule for next year will be New World Order (May 3), Thunderbolts (July 26), and Blade (September 6).
