Strap on your retro glasses and prepare to go back to the 80’s! The C64 Mini has officially been released in North America. A 50 percent smaller version of the original Commodore 64, which originally launched in 1982, was released on October 9th!
The nostalgia-infused console comes with a keyboard and attachable joystick to give players an authentic Commodore 64 experience. The C64 Mini is chock full of pre-downloaded titles including California Games, Winter Games, Impossible Mission II, Boulder Dash, Jumpman, Pitstop II, Speedball II: Brutal Deluxe, Street Sports Baseball, Summer Games II, and the Temple of Apshai Trilogy. It’s an impressive lineup of games for adults who want to re-experience their childhood and young people who want to get a bit of a history lesson on retro gaming.
A few key changes coming in The C64 Mini include updated visuals, USB ports, save functionality and the ability to update games. These changes should give The C64 Mini a more updated feel so it won’t be too jarring for newcomers. Paul Andrews, Managing Director of Retro Games had this to say about the console:
THE C64 Mini is a complete revival of one of the most influential computer and gaming systems, and we are eager to see parents reminisce about their childhood as they share the experience with their kids this holiday season. We brought back a mini version of the classic C64 computer as we think gamers of all ages are going to want this reimagined piece of video game and tech history.
The C64 Mini follows in the recent footsteps of Nintendo who launched the NES Classic and SNES Classic over the last two years. Sony has also recently gotten into the business of capitalizing on people’s nostalgia by announcing the PlayStation Classic earlier this year.
The C64 Mini is available at most retailers including Walmart, Gamestop, and Amazon.com.
