Fresh off the cancellations of Batwoman and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, the CW has canceled six more shows. According to TV Insider, the CW has canceled Charmed, Legacies, Dynasty, Naomi, The 4400, In the Dark, and Roswell, New Mexico. Charmed, In The Dark, Legacies, and Roswell, New Mexico, are ending after four seasons, while Dynasty ends after five. The rookie shows Naomi and The 4400 are both being canceled after only one season. The futures of  Nancy Drew and Stargirl are still unknown, as is the future of the Nancy Drew offshoot series Tom Swift, which still hasn’t premiered.
High Cancellation Rate for the CW
The Hollywood Reporter explains that this is the most canceled amount of shows the CW has announced in years. Batwoman and Legends reportedly had the lease for their sets up, and Warner Bros. TV opted not to extend them. While network leader Mark Pedowitz has tried to grow the network’s roster with new original shows year-round, the network’s corporate backers (CBS Studios and Warner Bros. TV) have changed that methodology.
The CW is looking into some more significant changes, as the network is expected to be purchased by Nexstar Media (though other suitors are on the list of potential buyers). Additionally, three new pilots have been ordered by the CW, namely The Winchesters (a prequel to Supernatural), Walker: Independence, and Gotham Knights. And despite the “out with the old and in with the new” approach the network seems to be taking, several shows have been renewed, such as Riverdale, The Flash, Superman & Lois, and more.
The CW Canceled Show Ends a Franchise
With Legacies canceled, The Vampire Diaries franchise seems to be at an end. This franchise was a great success for the CW, with both shows totaling a 13-year run.
