The Goonies’ never say die, and that couldn’t be more true! According to a report from Variety, The Goonies TV show is coming to Disney+, but not in the way you might expect. Originally known as the “Untitled Film Re-Enactment Project”, the script for The Goonies TV show was originally adapted into a pilot episode for Fox, but it is now coming to Disney+ under the title Our Time. The new show follows a teacher who is helping her students recreate a shot-by-shot remake of The Goonies.
Clancy Collins White, executive VP and head of development at Warner Bros., commented on development and the move to Disney+:
It was an incredible cast, but unfortunately a little bit too young for Fox. And so we immediately swung into high gear and hit the town with it. We did not yet have anything in development at Disney Plus. It’s been another example of being able to carve a pathway where there wasn’t one by virtue of a great story, a great pilot, a great series. The deal has taken a while to make, but we’re really excited to be moving forward.”
The Goonies was originally released in 1985 and quickly became a cult classic. The film follows a group of young kids from the “Goon Docks”. To save their homes from foreclosure, the group sets out to find the treasure of a 17th-century pirate, One-Eyed Willy.
Unfortunately, there is no news as to whether any of the original Goonies, like Sean Astin, Corey Feldman, Jeff Cohen, Ke Huy Quan, etc., will make an appearance in the new show. And there is no news on a release window for the project.
