Hulu’s flagship series, The Handmaid’s Tale, is seeing some major changes as showrunner Bruce Miller is passing his duties to focus on Testament, the upcoming sequel series, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter. While staying as a writer and executive producer, the sixth and final run for June Osborne (Elizabeth Moss) will be helmed by executive producers and writers Eric Tuchman and Yahlin Chang.
Duties to plan out the sequel series were demanding too much, leading to the previous showrunner of The Handmaid’s Tale handing off the job. He will still be involved, including writing two episodes of the final season. While he will be overlooking things, the day-to-day decisions will be made by Tuchman and Chang.
The Handmaid’s Tale showrunner steps back to work on the sequel, Testament
The new leaders of the series should not worry fans too much due to their work on the series and other shows. Tuchman has previously worked on Cedar Cove, Eureka, Stitchers, and Beauty and the Beast. Meanwhile, Chang has spent time on Supergirl, Shades of Blue, ER, and Dirty Sexy Money.
Miller came in as the showrunner for The Handmaid’s Tale, the adaption of the 1985 novel by Margaret Atwood, even though a woman was looked to run the adaption. Due to his love for the novel and Atwood’s work, he ended up with the job. It led to the first Emmy-winning series for Hulu. Now, with the adaption of Testament, which was published in 2019 after the success of the series, it has led to one of the biggest shows on the streamer.
Miller has worked on TV for over 30 years. Previous shows he has worked on include ER, Eureka, In Plain Sight, The 100, and The Devil You Know.
No release date has been slated for the final season of The Handmaid’s Tale.
