Disney has been turning its rides into movies, and The Haunted Mansion movie has been delayed. The film based on the Disneyland ride was set for March 10, 2023, and will now be released on August 11 of that same year. This comes in as Star Wars: Rogue Squadron gets taken off its calendar, and other movies get slated during D23, like Snow White on March 1, 2024; Inside Out 2 from Pixar on June 14, 2024, and Mufasa: The Lion King releasing in theaters on July 5, 2024.
The Haunted Mansion movie will be directed by Justin Simien (Dear White People). The film will be written by Katie Dippold (Ghostbusters). It has a stacked lineup of stars with Jared Leto, Rosario Dawson, Owen Wilson, Winona Ryder, Jamie Lee Curtis, Danny DeVito, Tiffany Haddish, Dan Levy, and LaKeith Stanfield. The story will follow a mother and son who come across the mansion, which is more than what it seems. They join an odd group to uncover the mystery.
Guillermo del Toro and Nick Reynolds will executive produce. Jonathan Eirich, Dan Lin, and Brigham Taylor will produce.

Some footage from various projects were revealed publicly from D23, like The Little Mermaid, Secret Invasion, Werewolf By Night, Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Willow, The Mandalorian season 3, and The Santa Clauses. Some projects had trailers that were only shown to attendees, like The Marvels and The Haunted Mansion movie. It showed its spooky and comedic tone as the cast discovered an old seance room.
Disney has been slowly but surely making adaptions based on its amusement park rides. The Jungle Cruise with Dwayne Johnson, Emily Blunt, Jesse Plemons, Edgar Ramírez, Jack Whitehall, and Paul Giamatti. Previously, there was a 2003 movie on The Haunted Mansion, and the Pirates of the Caribbean films were based on the ride.
