Kingdom Hearts has been one of the most ambitious crossover titles to date. The franchise pretty much shook the industry as Square Enix and Disney collaborated on a project mixing up Final Fantasy Characters with Disney Icons. It was a surreal experience to see two big franchises combine into one to create an original experience like none other. With that said, Kingdom Hearts is now 21 years old, today.
Kingdom Hearts Turns 21 Today!
The Kingdom Hearts IP has lore and story like none other. It’s an interesting story experience, to say the least, but you might hear the words light and dark being thrown around a lot. Dialogue, especially the English Dubs for the franchise, were particularly weak. But that’s just a part of the experience.
Where the series shined was the gameplay. You could’ve mixed and matched lots of gameplay mechanics to create a user-catered Keyblade experience. KH2 peaked when it came to gameplay and story. But the series went practically dark for the next 14 years with a small but plot-important Birth By Sleep and Dream Drop Distance portable release.
KH3 was visually by far the best in the franchise for obvious reasons. But the gameplay kind of fell off owing to the floaty combat that never really stuck. As for the story, we got a Happy Ending, though seemingly rushed for the most part, followed by a secret boss with a mysterious ending.
Now, fans are awaiting another installment to the Franchise, that being Kingdom Hearts 4. It’s been confirmed with an announcement trailer. Tetsuya Nomura did talk about it on stage, but we aren’t sure what’s coming next in Kingdom Hearts 4, as Square Enix and Disney have been pretty tight on info.
