From developer Rock Square Thunder comes forth a new adventure where bewildering situations meet lighthearted storytelling. In The Lightbringer, players will go on a mystical journey in order to wipe away a vicious evil that infests the land – with a playable demo to top it off.
Purify the Corruption…Become the Lightbringer
Some time ago, your sister attempted to bring down the darkness, but unfortunately, she didn’t accomplish her goals. With the player stepping into the shoes of her brother, you’ll finish where she had ended.
With her spirit guiding you through poetic verses, the company will always be by your side as you venture into danger. Dungeons crawling with foes, slimy beings in your way, it’ll help to have her be the voice of relief. By collecting light motes throughout the levels, you’ll eventually reach a monolith that’ll cleanse the darkness. But it’s best to keep your eyes peeled as you traverse the levels, though. The Lightbringer‘s design is semi-isometric, allowing the player to look at their surroundings from different helpful angles.
Gameplay Trailer
The game’s announcement today comes with a first-look gameplay trailer and a free demo! Narrated by Eleanor, the voice actress behind The Sister, the video shows moments of platforming and combat with a charming aesthetic to it. The colors feel warm, its enemies provoke a unique sense of curiosity and dread, and the mechanics look familiar but yet uncommon with the skills the brother may possess.

The Lightbringer is Rock Square Thunder’s first official game to come to Steam. Through publisher Zordix Publishing, the small team of nine developers and artists is able to show off the title. At the time of this writing, the developers are playing the game on Steam as a part of the platform’s Next Fest. In addition to the announcement, they released the aforesaid demo to give players a taste of what’s to come.
Players can expect The Lightbringer to launch sometime later this year onto PC via Steam and for the Nintendo Switch. You can stay up-to-date with the game’s updates by going to its Steam page here.
Be sure to check out Steam’s Next Fest event for exclusive playthroughs by the developers themselves. A semi-isometric puzzle platformer sounds quite extraordinary for The Lightbringer.
